Good morning from Shanghai! We just finished breakfast and are about to embark on a day-long tour of the city, but first we have our tour meetings with manager Patrick. (Some gems so far: "here in China, Chinese food is just...food" & "drink bottled water, not because Chinese water is bad, but because your stomach is made in the USA" & "in US I understand that when cars see a red light, they stop, but here in China, traffic lights are more like decoration for the city".) Going to borrow a little of the fine Courtyard by Marriott Puxi's Internet access to tell you about our first day.
We landed around 3pm, and after successfully clearing customs we got to the hotel by 5:30. The hotel is gorgeous and located very close to a subway station. (Even closer when you don't take the wrong exit out of the subway!)

We showered and freshened up and didn't let ourselves fall asleep. We ventured out on the subway and headed to the central part of the city. We had reservations at Cloud 9, a bar on the 87th floor of the Jinmao Tower.
The view from the top was pretty incredible. You can see the Bund, the Oriental Pearl Tower, and some brightly lit up boats in the river.
Pretty good first night! Can't wait to get out again today to see more!
