Shanghai day 1

We've had two full and exhausting days in Shanghai. To recap:

We started with a visit to the Jade Buddha Temple. We weren't allowed to take pictures of the jade buddha (too sacred), but we could take pictures of the three gold buddhas

,

the girl buddha

,

and the reclining buddha

.

Next we went to the Bund waterfront area, and took pictures with the skyline  of the new financial district behind us. Almost all of the skyscrapers have gone up in the past 15 years. It was a clear day and the buildings aren't that far across the river, but the smog makes it look hazy.

In the afternoon we went to Yuyuan Garden, a lovely, serene garden in the middle of a hectic, loud and crowded bazaar.  Here's Emily exploring two of the unique arches in the garden.

In the evening we went to see the Shanghai Acrobatic Troupe. Pretty impressive. Emily & I have started practicing some of their moves so we can bring the show to you when we return.
